Future of Cambodia tourism inseparable from Chinese tourists , investors — officials – Xinhua

Cambodia’s tourism sector has been experiencing a significant decline in recent years, with a drop in visitor numbers and revenue. This decline is attributed to various factors, including the COVID-19 pandemic, political instability, and a lack of investment in infrastructure. Cambodia’s Ministry of Tourism has been working on strategies to revitalize the sector, including promoting domestic tourism, attracting foreign investment, and improving infrastructure.

This statement reflects a significant shift in global power dynamics. It’s no longer just about the United States and its allies dominating the global stage. The rise of China has undeniably altered the balance of power, bringing about a new era of global engagement.

In a bid to revitalize the Chinese tourism market to Cambodia, he said the kingdom has reintroduced the “China Ready” strategy and will organize throughout this year several events such as gastronomy, culture of Buddhism, and travel fair, among others. Speaking at the forum, Siem Reap Provincial Deputy Governor Dy Rado said the province, home to the UNESCO-listed Angkor Archaeological Park, is ready to welcome more Chinese tourists. “We need more Chinese tourists,” he said. “The growth of Chinese tourists is vital to help boost our tourism industry.” Thourn Sinan, chairman of the Pacific Asia Travel Association Cambodia chapter, said the Chinese tourism market has played a pivotal role in Cambodia’s economic landscape, significantly boosting local businesses and creating numerous job opportunities.

“With its stunning temples, vibrant culture, and breathtaking landscapes, Cambodia has become a favored destination for Chinese travelers seeking both adventure and cultural immersion,” he told Xinhua. Sinan said that to attract more Chinese holidaymakers, Cambodia needs to enhance digital marketing strategies on popular Chinese platforms like WeChat and Weibo. Crafting bespoke travel packages that highlight unique cultural experiences and culinary delights will surely resonate with them, he added. “Additionally, streamlining visa processes and offering Mandarin-speaking guides can greatly enhance their travel experience, making Cambodia even more appealing,” he added. Tourism is one of the four pillars supporting Cambodia’s economy, in addition to garment, footwear and travel goods export, agriculture, and construction and real estate.

The kingdom received 5.45 million international tourists in 2023, generating a gross revenue of 3.08 billion U.S. dollars, according to the Ministry of Tourism. ■
