A new study by IIM Indore has highlighted the need for the sector to prioritize women’s safety and security as a fundamental part of their mission to boost travel.

The study found that:

  • 71% of women travelers reported feeling unsafe while traveling in India. 45% of women travelers reported experiencing harassment or abuse while traveling in India. 21% of women travelers reported being victims of physical or sexual assault while traveling in India. These statistics are alarming and highlight the need for the Indian tourism sector to take immediate action to address the safety and security concerns of women travelers.
